Dolphin watching off the Algarve coast, Portugal.

The Atlantic coast that stretches East from Cape St. Vincent, Europe’s most South Westerly point, is home to many species of cetaceans - dolphins and whales.

And every day, boats from Lagos carry families, wild life lovers and groups of all nationalities out onto the ocean in search of them.

Algarve, Lagos Dolphins WatchingA big pod of Dolphins racing the boat.   Friendly and inquisitive common dolphins, in pods ranging in size from two or three animals up to hundreds, are the most often encountered.   Algarve, Lagos Dolphins WatchingA calm day for the Bottlenose.   Far larger are the regal bottlenose dolphins popularized by Flipper .... happily, the ones we see are all free.

Algarve, Lagos Dolphins WatchingA Minke whale makes a leisurely dive.   Risso’s dolphins are not an uncommon sight, their large pale bodies catching and reflecting the sunlight.
Once or twice a year we may see Orcas, Minke or Sperm whales, just three of the many wonderful surprises the ocean has in store for us.  Find out more about other species.
